AFYREN, which created and is industrialising a breakthrough innovation in green chemistry, is pleased to announce its selection for the second straight year in the French Tech 120.
AFYREN’s ambition is to make a sustainable impact on industry by providing biosourced, low-carbon solutions for the food, feed, cosmetics, perfumes and fine chemicals markets.
In 2020, being part of the French Tech 120 brought AFYREN into a valuable network and increased its name recognition and credibility. It helped the company transition from innovative French start-up to an industrial-scale start-up.
“Renewed membership in the FT120 programme is a great endorsement and will help AFYREN meet ambitious challenges over the next two years,” said Nicolas Sordet, CEO of AFYREN. “Our major challenge this year is to complete construction of our first plant, AFYREN NEOXY, a unique, zero-waste, low-carbon biorefinery at the Chemesis industrial platform in Carling – Saint-Avold.”
To sustain its growth, AFYREN will be recruiting 60 people in the Grand Est region over the next 6 months.
“We are going to demonstrate that respect for the environment can be compatible with industry and be an integral part of an economically viable French model that creates jobs and can be exported in the medium term,” Nicolas Sordet said.
About AFYREN
To meet a growing need among industries to reduce the use of petroleum derivatives in their production chain, AFYREN makes biomolecules derived from the reuse of non-food biomass. These ingredients are widely used in human and animal nutrition, flavours and fragrances, cosmetics, and fine chemicals. This production of renewable carbon, which is firmly grounded in the circular economy, uses fermentation technologies that are the result of 10 years of research and are patented worldwide.
Founded in 2012 and led by Nicolas Sordet and Jérémy Pessiot, AFYREN has about 35 employees at its sites in Lyon, Clermont-Ferrand and Carling – Saint Avold. AFYREN is a winner of the Concours Mondial d’Innovation 2030 in the “Plant proteins and plant chemistry” category and was first included in the French Tech 120 in January 2020.
In 2018, AFYREN committed to its industrial project by creating the AFYREN NEOXY joint venture with Bpifrance’s SPI fund. AFYREN NEOXY is dedicated to the first industrial production of AFYREN natural organic acids in the Grand Est region.
